Preproduction
Filming locations & logistics
Where needed, we conduct site visits to assess access, lighting, and logistical considerations:
- We confirm filming permissions with property owners, councils, or site managers to ensure smooth access.
- For public or private spaces, we determine if location releases or appearance waivers are required.
- If drone footage is needed, we check airspace restrictions and engage a licensed operator if necessary.
- We confirm insurance and public liability requirements, ensuring coverage is in place.
- We coordinate with site managers, security, and key personnel to align schedules and minimise disruption.
- Weather, seasonal changes, and site conditions are factored into planning.
People on screen
Featuring people in a production adds authenticity and personality, but the right approach depends on budget, availability, and production needs. We typically have 3 options:
- Featuring Your Team – Using internal staff can personalise a production, but it’s important to consider their time away from work and comfort on camera. In some cases, the cost of pulling team members out of the office may outweigh the cost of hiring professionals.
- Using the Public – Capturing real interactions with the public can add authenticity but comes with unpredictability. Relying on the public means less control over availability, appearance, and performance. Location releases or waivers may also be required.
- Hiring Talent – While hiring actors or voiceover artists is an added expense, it can often be more efficient, reducing time on set and ensuring a polished result.
Scheduling & production planning
Our architectural background enables us to fully understand the nuances of your project, ensuring a production that works with natural daylighting and spatial sequence.
Scenes are rarely filmed in order. We schedule shots based on optimal lighting conditions, with exteriors typically captured in the morning or late afternoon and interiors filmed during the middle of the day. A carefully structured run sheet outlines timings, locations, and key personnel, keeping the production organised and running smoothly.
We coordinate with stakeholders to ensure filming integrates seamlessly with ongoing work, site conditions, or operational needs. Our ability to navigate complex environments means every production is planned with efficiency, flexibility, and attention to detail.
