Kent Street, Sydney
by Place Design Group
An urban oasis in the heart of the city
Kent Street’s new public space offers a rare moment of respite within Sydney’s dense urban environment. Designed as an urban green oasis, the space invites workers and visitors to step out of their offices for a break, a casual meeting, or an afternoon of work outdoors. A series of timber pods were introduced to soften the hard concrete surroundings, creating flexible seating areas that encourage people to use the space in their own way. The balance of greenery and openness allows for a sense of refuge without feeling enclosed, making it a valuable addition to the city’s landscape.
Our approach to documenting this project focused on movement and interaction—capturing the way people naturally engaged with the space rather than presenting it in a static, clinical way. Video and photography were largely handheld, allowing for a more fluid, observational style that highlighted fleeting moments and subtle interactions. Through interviews and considered production planning, the final work tells the story of the space as it’s experienced—alive, adaptable, and welcoming.
