All Hallows St Gertrude’s Revitalisation

Revitalising play and connection at All Hallows’ School

To support the expansion of All Hallows’ School’s junior years, Place Design Group reimagined an underutilised lawn into a dynamic outdoor recreation space. Designed to foster physical activity, social connection, and self-determined play, the transformation introduced two distinct play areas—one active, one reflective—framing a central lawn that respects the school’s historic grid. A custom climbing rope structure extends into the shade of a retained tree, offering an engaging yet low-maintenance play element, while a labyrinth integrated into the design links with the school’s religious curriculum.

Our approach to documenting this project focused on capturing both the energy and intimacy of the space in use. Working closely with students and staff, we directed scenes naturally, ensuring the images reflected the way the space is experienced daily. A light and playful approach behind the camera helped create an environment where genuine moments could unfold, reinforcing the project’s focus on connection, learning, and engagement.
